One word: umami. Not only is the flavor of our miso marinated black cod delicious, but the benefits of this superfood from Japan cannot be understated. Miso contains microorganisms and enzymes from a special fermentation process that support digestion and a stronger immune system.

Miso is authentically Japanese and also considered to be “The secret ingredient that will pack your dinner with flavor and transform your meal into something exquisite.” 

The program from which we source our miso cod meets our Holy Grail standards. This product contains no additives or preservatives. It’s an all-natural product with no dyes, colors or added flavors. They are committed to sustainability and the end result is truly delicious!

Each order includes either two or six 4oz filets plus marinade. Please be advised that the marinade will not freeze solid.

Cooking Suggestions

For best results, thaw your miso cod for 5-6 hours in the refrigerator. Broiling is the recommended cooking method, but the cod can also be cooked on the stovetop. Please note: This is a fragile fish and should not be left thawed for extended periods. We also recommend removing a majority of the miso marinade prior to cooking.

Broiled Miso Cod (Recommended):

  1. Set broiler to high and adjust the rack to the second highest position
  2. Place Miso cod in an oven safe tray under the broiler on the top rack skin side up
  3. After 4-5 minutes the miso will start to caramelize and become fragrant. Remove from broiler and flip
  4. Place back under broiler for additional 2-3 minutes
  5. Remove and plate

Pan Seared Miso Cod:

  1. Pre-heat a non-stick skillet to med-high heat and add 1 tbsp of oil
  2. Place the Miso Cod skin side down for 4-5 minutes
  3. Flip and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes
  4. Remove and plate

Grilled Miso Cod:

  1. Preheat grill to medium heat, lightly oil the grates (we recommend using a grill pan or basket)
  2. Place Miso Cod skin side down on grill
  3. After 4-5 minutes flip and continue to grill for 2-3 minutes
  4. Remove and plate

What to Serve with Miso Black Cod:

You can serve Miso Marinated Black Cod Filets with a number of traditional sides including steamed white or brown rice, cauliflower puree or lemon orzo pasta. A wide range of vegetables will complement your cod such as grilled asparagus, wilted pea shoots or steamed broccoli finished in olive oil and salt.

For wine pairings we recommend crisp whites such as a sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio. If you’re a lover of beer, try pairing your miso black cod with an Asahi Japanese Beer.
